MLB.com CEO Bob Bowman says that the record Web traffic reported by NBC Sports and ESPN Internet Ventures for Monday's U.S. Open playoff between Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate isn't noteworthy when compared to the overall size of TV audiences. He would be impressed by 10 million concurrent streams, which he believes will happen on the Web within two years.
At BMO Capital Market's eMerging Media Forum yesterday, Bowman said, "The reported results were 600,000 concurrent streams. That's a great number. But 600,000 streams in the TV world is something you wouldn't talk about."
