Macworld Arriveth

1:20 PM -- SAN FRANCISCO -- It's like peering into the ceremonies of some weird cult: Macworld has arrived.

Long before the blogosphere, Apple attracted its army of obsessive niche press. It's only gotten worse now that Apple matters again, with mainstream news outlets buzzing about what The Steve will announce in his keynote.

Seeking Alpha puts odds on various rumors today. The concept of iTunes movie rentals -- the one rumor everyone agrees is true -- seems substantial, although Netflix Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX) beat them to it. A high-definition Apple TV would be interesting. Apple signing a truce with the Beatles... Who cares?

Not handicapped: odds of Steve Jobs getting his wish for the death of DRM. One label exec tells The New York Times it's going to be at least six months, while they give Amazon a DRM-free chance to battle iTunes.
