Hulu Unveils Subscription Service
10:20 AM -- Hulu LLC finally announced its much-anticipated new subscription service, Hulu Plus, yesterday.
At the moment, users can request an invitation to a preview of Hulu Plus, but the service will launch officially in July. It will cost $10 per month and offer customers access to an expanded catalogue of content -- previous seasons of popular shows like Grey's Anatomy and full seasons of shows no longer on the air, like Ally McBeal and The X-Files.
Also, unlike Hulu's free service, Hulu Plus will be available on about a trillion different devices: iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch; Samsung, Vizio, and Sony TVs and Blu-ray players; and Playstation 3 "soon" and Xbox 360 by 2011.
Hulu CEO Jason Kilar said he doesn't see Hulu Plus leading to cord-cutting, however.
"I don't see this as a substitute for cable or satellite service. It's not a product that can serve that need," he told AllThingsD. "I think the relationship between cable and satellite and telco pay TV service providers, and the content industry is a very, very solid one. And I think that is going to persist for quite a long time."
