Former AlcaLu Exec Quigley Resurfaces

Former Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) executive Mike Quigley is back in the headlines today, as Australian company Audinate Pty Ltd announced it's added Quigley to its board. (See Quigley Joins Audinate.)

That's not much consolation to those who'd hoped Quigley would ride to the rescue last year to take charge of AlcaLu after Pat Russo's imminent departure was announced. (See Who Will Replace Russo?, AlcaLu CEO Rumor Reprise, Quigley Talk Boosts ALU, and Verwaayen Takes the Helm at AlcaLu.)

Quigley left AlcaLu in 2007, returning to Australia after the merger with Lucent was completed. He'd been chief operating officer at Alcatel and was president of science, technology, and strategy at the merged company. (See Où Est Mike Quigley? and Quigley, D'Amelio out at AlcaLu.)

His latest gig keeps him involved with the Ethernet and IP world, but in a different way. Audinate was spun out of National ICT Australia (NICTA) to apply data networking to live audio and video setups -- we're talking the kind with mixing boards, roadies, and the like.

But remember when he was talked up as being the next big thing in telecom? Here's a 2005 interview with Quigley, talking up a then-recent IPTV partnership with Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) and softening expectations regarding his CEO prospects.
