3D Coming to YouTube

10:10 AM -- YouTube Inc. will begin offering 3D video on the PlayStation 3 sometime in the next 12 months, Sony studio director Mick Hocking told NewTeeVee.

"YouTube.com has had 3D functionality for more than a year now, so pushing this out to other devices would be a natural progression," a YouTube spokesperson said.

According to Hocking, an upcoming firmware update will enable the PlayStation 3 to support the 3D streams. In order to view the 3D content users must own a 3DTV as well as a PS3.

Of course, it's unclear exactly what kind of 3D content YouTube will be offering, though NewTeeVee says it "presumably would include some premium content." So don't expect to see "David After Dentist" in stunning 3D anytime soon.
