SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Novera Optics today announced that John Barton has joined the company as chief executive officer. In his new role, Barton is charged with accelerating the growth of Novera Optics as it continues to gain momentum as a leading provider of low-cost, high-performance optical access solutions.

Barton has extensive senior management and executive-level experience in the optical electronics market. He comes to Novera Optics from Flextronics, the world's largest contract manufacturer, where he served as vice president and general manager. In this position, Barton played a significant role in identifying and pursuing emerging technology opportunities for Flextronics, and implementing strategies designed to increase the technical content within existing services.

Prior to Flextronics, Barton served as president and CEO at Wave Optics, Inc., an optical components and sub-components company. He began with Wave Optics as chief operating officer, and in this position built the company's operations, sales and marketing, materials, and IT infrastructure. While serving as president, he led the company from a 40-person R&D-centric organization through a strategy shift to a 425-person design and manufacturing organization with top-tier customers.

"I am very pleased to join the talented team at Novera Optics," stated Barton. "As the limitations of BPON, EPON, and GPON become apparent, carriers are increasingly looking for alternative solutions that can be transparently implemented. Novera's deep technology base combined with its field-proven systems, plus increased demands for Access bandwidth, makes this an exciting time to be a leading supplier in the WDM-PON market."
