NEC Eluminant to Ship PON Assembly

HERNDON, Va. -- NEC Eluminant Technologies, Inc. (eLUMINANT') announced today the availability of a G.983.1 FSAN-compliant Passive Optical Network (PON) termination subassembly. A sample of this subassembly will be on display at the Optical Fiber Communications Conference, Booth #1778, March 19-22 in Anaheim, Calif.

The subassembly, one of the first commercially available component building blocks for developers of next generation optical access systems, consists of integrated optical components capable of delivering 155 M/Bsec bi-directional broadband data over a single fiber. It also contains the high-speed processing power to support a mix of voice, data and video traffic as well as the point to multi-point bandwidth sharing technology that makes PONs so attractive.

"This development highlights the partnership between eLUMINANT and NEC Corporation in pursuing optical solutions for the bottlenecks that exist in today's access network. We are leveraging NEC's core strength in fundamental research and component design in bringing these advanced solutions to market," said Jim Holley, senior vice president of marketing for eLUMINANT.
