HORSHAM, Pa. and ANDOVER, Mass. -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) Broadband Communications Sector and Quantum Bridge Communications(R), Inc., a leading developer of Fiber to the Premises (FTTP) solutions, today announced a major commitment for the companies' new joint Fiber to the Home solution.

Leading Internet service provider and independent cable TV operator QCOL has selected the companies to provide an FTTP network that will serve voice, video and data to homes in portions of Fayette County, Pennsylvania; Garrett County, Maryland; and Preston County, West Virginia. QCOL currently offers dial-up, cable modem, wireless and leased line Internet access to businesses and residences throughout the PA-MD-WV tri-state region.

This announcement closely follows Motorola's and Quantum Bridge's initial June 3 announcement of their plans to team together to provide their Fiber to the Home Solution.

"After spending a great amount of time comparing FTTP solutions, it was obvious to us that Quantum Bridge/Motorola deliver the best solution in the industry," said Mike Diehl, QCOL president.

"QCOL has been using fiber optic technology throughout the backend of our network for years -- and extending fiber optics to the customer premises completes QCOL's 'Fiber all the Way' initiative. Fiber to the premises is the clear choice in serving our residential customers with the latest in video and data, as well as in voice. And when it came to the Quantum Bridge/Motorola solution, we liked the economics of the full ATM switching features of the OLT, the power of the integrated video return path, and the fact that they are compliant with the international APON standards," Diehl explained.

"This selection by QCOL affirms our commitment to providing cost-effective, best-in-class infrastructure solutions for service providers," said Charles Dougherty, vice president and general manager, network infrastructure solutions, Motorola Broadband. "We look forward to working with QCOL in delivering the full bundle of benefits of voice, video and data services to their residential customers."

"We are pleased to partner with QCOL, a company that is at the leading edge of a new way of building access networks. We look forwarding to helping QCOL enhance the lives of their residential users by offering the latest in voice, video and data services over a fiber infrastructure," said Tony Zona, president and CEO of Quantum Bridge.
