SAN DIEGO -- LightPointe, an innovator, designer and manufacturer of carrier-class optical transmission equipment using Free-Space Optical (FSO™) technology, today announced a strategic alliance with Texas Instruments, enabling development of new FSO systems.LightPointe will incorporate TI’s Analog MEMS (micro electro-mechanical system) and DSP technology in its next-generation Flight™ FSO products. Free-Space Optics uses optical transmissions through the air to offer ultra-high speed bandwidth without the costs and delays of ripping up roads for cable or the hassles of acquiring spectrum licenses.“Working with TI will allow our engineering team to rapidly move forward in designing new FSO products,” said LightPointe Vice President of Engineering Gerald Clark. “We’re using TI’s optical micro electro-mechanical system (MEMS) technology to develop a next-generation tracking system, which will offer our customers another cost-effective tool for creating reliable, high-speed networks.”LightPointe Communications Inc.
