Breakthrough software CAS enables DTT, DTH, and cable networks to escape Smartcard lock-in and piracy

BELFAST, U.K. -- Latens, the market leader in next generation software Conditional Access (CA) and middleware for Pay-TV, will use IBC 2008 to demonstrate how one-way broadcast network operators can benefit from improved security, more flexible business models and lower deployment and customer acquisition costs with its Latens BCAS downloadable software CAS.
On booth 1.F30, the company will outline why one of India’s largest multi-system cable operators, Digicable Network, with over 12 million subscribers, has selected BCAS to secure its nationwide Pay-TV roll-out. Digicable is the world’s first large-scale deployment of downloadable software CA for a one-way DVB broadcast network – another significant milestone in the market acceptance of Latens’ range of downloadable software CAS solutions.
“BCAS is an important breakthrough in Pay-TV security. For new one-way network operators it provides greater customer choice, cost-effectiveness and flexibility; for existing operators it provides an escape route from legacy smartcard systems, which are suffering increased piracy and limiting operator’s business options,” comments Alex Borland, Head of Technical Services, Latens.
