SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Infinera Corporation will show cable network operators attending the CableLabs® Summer Conference in Keystone, Colorado, nextweek how the Infinera DTN can offer economic and operational advantages across theirmetro, regional and national service areas. The Infinera DTN is the first optical transportplatform based on photonic integrated circuits, and is in operating today in multipleservice provider networks.

Optimized for next-generation networks supporting broadband data, video on demand(VOD), and legacy TDM and video services, the Infinera DTN enables cable operators toadd capacity “on the fly,” exactly when and where needed in the network without theplanning complexity or engineering restrictions associated with conventional DWDMbasedproducts. Also, the reach-independence of the DTN enables cable operators toconsolidate head-end video distribution and data/VOD service transport using a singlecost-effective platform, thereby simplifying operations and network architecture.

The DTN platform provides direct support for GbE and 10GbE services from IP-basedCMTS and VOD service platforms, as well as SONET/SDH interfaces from 155Mb/s to10Gb/s to support existing private-line services and core IP router backbones. Inaddition, 2.38Gb/s and 2.488b/s interfaces support migration of legacy digital videotransport systems onto a common optical transport layer.

The unique GMPLS control plane of the DTN maintains the service manageability,operational simplicity and protection robustness of traditional SONET/SDH and RPRbasednetworks. Compared to “all-optical” solutions and ROADMs, this allows aseamless operational and service migration with the sub-wavelength switching, fastprotection, and reconfigurability of digital networks, combined with the multiwavelengthscalability of WDM.
