MUNICH -- Infineon Technologies. new OptiPort. SFF Burst Mode BIDI®-Transceiver extends itsfield proven BIDI family of optical components and transceivers and is compliant withthe latest IEEE Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) standard that definesa bandwidth of 1.25 Gbit/s down- und upstream: compared to the widely used ITUBPON standard, twice as high data rates when downloading data and a fivefold increaseof the data rate when sending for example large digital photographs and videofiles.

The Infineon OptiPort optical transceiver provides a complete end-to-end symmetricalGigabit Ethernet connection and allows two-way digital communication over a singleoptical fiber in point-to-point (P2P) and Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networks(GEPON) where up to 32 households can be served compared to only one singlepoint-to-point connection. With OptiPort telecommunications and service providers areenabled to offer reliable, high speed digital services at reduced system and maintenancecosts.

The single fiber solution OptiPort is based on Infineon.s classic BIDI technologywith several 100,000 modules installed worldwide. OptiPort is operating in the1310/1490/1550nm wavelength scheme. The module can be offered in severalvariants which enables the system designer to use it in different system solutions:GEPONs but also in P2P networks. The transceivers target Central Office (CO) applicationsas well Customer Premises Equipment (CPE), hence providing a completeend-to-end-Ethernet solution and interoperability advantages.
