FREMONT, Calif. -- Ikanos Communications (Nasdaq: IKAN), a leading developer of Fiber Fast(TM) broadband solutions, and Wintegra, a fabless semiconductor company enabling next generation broadband networks, today announced they have jointly developed a VDSL2 line card reference platform. Under the partnership agreement, Ikanos has integrated its SmartLeap(R) 94xx family of VDSL2 chipsets with Wintegra's WinArrow Access Processors in a line card reference design that will speed time to market and reduce costs for access equipment designers.

"With the ability to deliver Fiber Fast broadband for interactive services, VDSL2 offers a higher level of performance that enables new revenue- generating services for carriers," said Robert O'Dell, senior vice president of marketing at Wintegra. "By offering intelligent line card reference designs based on our powerful family of network processors and Ikanos' VDSL2 chipsets, we believe we can offer proven solutions that will speed up the rollout of VDSL2 by slashing line card development time while reducing costs."

Intelligent line cards utilize functionality partitioned between Wintegra network processors and Ikanos VDSL2 chipsets, enabling on-board QoS management, traffic shaping, ADSL termination, and bonding without expensive custom engineering. In addition, the tight integration between access processor and VDSL chipset functions offers the potential for higher performance than designs that employ larger numbers of components.

"The multiple high-speed services enabled by VDSL2 will require new levels of network intelligence for traffic management," said Dean Grumlose, vice president of marketing at Ikanos Communications. "With reference designs that combine our market-leading VDSL2 chipsets and Wintegra's WinArrow processors, access equipment designers will be able to combine higher bandwidth with greater intelligence to give their carrier customers the control they require for profitable service management."
