FREMONT, Calif. -- Ikanos Communications, a leading developer of Fiber-Fast™ broadband solutions, today announced that UCOM Corporation, a subsidiary of the USEN Group, will deploy 100 Mbps services based on Ikanos’ Fx™ 100100 chipsets. Designed for FTTx and multi-dwelling units (MDU) applications, the Ikanos’ symmetrical 100 Mbps chipset will enable UCOM’s customers to take advantage of exciting new interactive applications such as streaming video and interactive gaming.

“As the leader in the FTTx market for MDUs, UCOM is delighted to be the first carrier to offer symmetrical 100 Mbps services to customers in both their homes and offices,” said Mr. Toru Suzuki, President of UCOM. “Ikanos’ Fx 100100 chipset has enabled USEN to maintain its leadership by introducing new interactive broadband applications to consumers in Japan.”

The Fx 100100, the latest addition to Ikanos’ successful family of fiber-extension products, is the first programmable silicon solution to provide speeds of up to 100 Mbps in both the upstream and downstream directions. The Fx 100100 is designed for use in Optical Network Units (ONUs) and Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) while the Fx 100100S-4 is designed for Subscriber Located Equipment (SLE) and Optical Network Terminals (ONTs). Both products are part of Ikanos’ Fx family of chipsets that allow interactive services to be delivered by virtually any carrier worldwide.

“There is increasing demand for carriers to offer high-bandwidth services to customers,” said Dean Grumlose, vice president of marketing at Ikanos. “We are pleased to work with a market leader such as UCOM, who is moving quickly to offer innovative services to their growing customer base.”
