Embarq's Copper TV

6:00 PM -- So what's going on with Embarq's telco TV venture? (See Embarq to Test Telco TV Service.) The company had announced that it would be testing a video service to run off of its own network but offered little information beyond that. Will it be FTTH? FTTN? VDSL2? ADSL? Dialup?

I've heard murmurings that, whatever it is, it'll likely be over copper and that the test market will be somewhere in Kansas. Copper would make sense, since a deep-fiber deployment could be prohibitively expensive for Embarq. But then again, VDSL would require installing remote terminals -- also expensive. It's sort of a Catch 22 that many Tier 2 carriers find themselves in.
