Charter Does More D3

Jeff Baumgartner

12:40 PM -- Charter Communications Inc. has rolled out Docsis 3.0 in Victorville, Calif., again starting off with a tier that offers downstream bursts of 60 Mbit/s.

It marks the second wideband launch for the MSO, which debuted its Ultra60 tier in January in St. Louis. Charter locks horns with AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) U-verse in both markets. (See Charter Takes On U-verse .)

Charter, which hopes to emerge from a Chapter 11 reorg before the end of the year, hasn't shared much about its future Docsis 3.0 rollout plans. However, Charter CTO Marwan Fawaz noted during the opening session of the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Denver last week that the MSO expects to have the majority of its footprint ready for Docsis 3.0 by "early 2011."
