HAYWARD, Calif. -- Terawave Communications Inc., a worldwide leader of multiservice optical access solutions, announced today that Cox Communications, Inc., the fourth largest MSO operating in the USA, has selected Terawave ® as a vendor for their passive optical network deployments.

"This technology enables Cox to offer advanced data and voice services to many more customers than has been economically feasible in the past", said Dan Estes, manager of transport engineering for Cox in Atlanta. Cox plans to use Terawave in addition to its other solutions to expand the footprint where Transparent LAN service, Virtual Private Networks, and traditional DS1 and DS3 services are available.

"Terawave's ability to integrate, transport and manage voice and data services in a single platform has been a key driver in Cox's decision", commented Frank Lockwood, Marketing VP of Terawave Communications. "Terawave gave Cox the technical flexibility they were looking for at the right total cost of ownership point."

"We were challenged to find a solution that closed the bandwidth gap between what services could be offered over coax and our traditional SONET products. Passive Optical Networks or PON technology emerged as a way to accomplish that goal and Terawave provided a technically and economically attractive answer", said Estes.
