Huawei Claims CCAP First

SHENZHEN, China -- Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology solutions provider, recently unveiled the industry's first Distributed Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP) at the ANGACOM Exhibition in Cologne, Germany, making cost-effective multi-service convergence and service digitalization a reality for the MSO industry. Huawei also showcased the evolution roadmap of the DOCSIS 3.1-capable distributed CCAP product that protects carrier investment to the maximum extent.

At this year's ANGACOM Exhibition, Huawei's announcements of the distributed CCAP and DOCSIS 3.1 evolution have become hot topics in MSO access. Compared with traditional CMTS, D-CCAP can converge with FTTx, saving 70% of hub space, 50% of power consumption and 80% of trunk fiber resource. Huawei's DOCSIS 3.1-based distributed CCAP solution employs Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) in the upstream to support simultaneous access of multiple users over a single coaxial cable, and broadcasts data to downstream users divided into different groups using the multiple modulation profile (MMP) technology, drastically enhancing the spectrum efficiency. Synergizing the key technologies of DOCSIS 3.1, such as physical-layer high-order modulation (16K QAM downstream and 4K QAM upstream) and low-density parity-check (LDPC) codec, distributed CCAP delivers 2.3 Gbit/s downstream and 1 Gbit/s upstream over a single channel, making it the highest line rate possible over coaxial cables in the industry. Compared with DOCSIS 3.0, DOCSIS 3.1 is significantly enhanced in terms of spectrum efficiency and bandwidth, and is therefore able to deliver a smoother audiovisual experience with Internet services to users.
