SUWANEE, Ga. -- ARRIS (Nasdaq: ARRS) today announced that Vidéotron, Canada’s third largest MSO, has selected ARRIS as one of its VoIP modem suppliers. Vidéotron has placed a substantial initial order for ARRIS DOCSIS® 2.0-certified Touchstone™ Telephony Modem TM402P indoor E-MTAs. These E-MTAs will be used to address the customer premises side of Vidéotron’s large-scale VoIP telephony deployment based on PacketCable™ standards. The sale was facilitated by Capella Telecommunications Inc., a Canadian based distributor of leading communications equipment and ARRIS’ Value Added Reseller (VAR) in the country.

PacketCable™ VoIP allows cable operators to offer basic and extended telephony services efficiently and economically over the broadband cable access network. The superior software and battery back-up capability of ARRIS’ E-MTAs will allow Vidéotron to offer their customers across the province of Québec all the functionalities available through conventional phone service. Residential and commercial customers will be able to use their existing telephones and keep their current telephone numbers, but will benefit from lower costs and bundling offers.

“This order represents ARRIS’ largest E-MTA commitment to date in the Canadian market,” stated Mark Adams, ARRIS VP of Sales. “We are honored to work with both Vidéotron and Capella to bring VoIP to consumers in Quebec, and we look forward to providing Vidéotron with the customer premises components they will need as their VoIP deployment progresses.”
