Cable Show Consolidation?

Well, it looks as if our own Michael Harris might get his wish after all, following reports this week that cable operators and cable organizations are rendezvousing later this month to discuss consolidating some of the industry's events into one, big, annual week of cable goodness.

CableFAX columnist and cable vet Paul Maxwell writes that a more streamlined event could occur in late spring, and share some traits with cable's Diversity Week, which happens every fall in New York.

Led by National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) , leaders with cable orgs such as Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing (CTAM) , Cable Positive, The Cable and Telecommunications Human Resources Association (CTHRA) , Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) , CableLabs , Women in Cable Telecommunications, and American Cable Association (ACA) , will meet about the consolidation matter on Oct. 22 in New York, the report adds.

Multichannel News points out that they may consider several events around the week of The Cable Show, which is next scheduled for May 18-20 in New Orleans.

As long as some of that consolidation leads us to Las Vegas and The Big Easy on a semi-regular basis, I think most will be pleased with the idea. It's prudent to keep travel budgets in check, but let's make sure "fun" cities continue to appear on this streamlined docket, shall we?
