Motorola introduces Broadband Services Router 2000 for cable operators and releases version 4.1 of its BSR 64000 software

HORSHAM, Pa. -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT - News) today announced the availability of the Broadband Services Router 2000 (BSR 2000), a fully-featured cable modem termination system (CMTS) with a compact design that enables cable broadband operators to extend services into new and emerging market venues.
The newest member of a well-established family of cable (CMTS) products, the 1 rack unit (1U) Motorola BSR 2000 can be deployed as a stand-alone device, or in small clusters that support small or medium sized distribution hubs, multiple dwelling unit (MDU) facilities, or hospitality locations. The product is based on the DOCSIS® 2.0 standard, and supports Motorola RFSentry functionality, which enables advanced management of spectrum though an extra receiver port.
The Motorola BSR 2000 is architected for system redundancy and offers robust routing and Quality of Service (QoS) to support mission critical services such as Voice-over-IP (VoIP), virtual private networks (VPN) and multimedia services. The product also includes support for wireless broadband applications.
The product enables operators to generate incremental revenue, reduce operational cost, and more cost-effectively deliver voice, data and multimedia services.
Features of the robust Motorola BSR 2000 platform include:
Compact, space-saving 1U platform designed to be installed in minutes by non-technical personnel
Based on DOCSIS® 2.0 and EuroDOCSIS 2.0 standards, including A-TDMA and S-CDMA with logical channels, and provides up to three times the upstream bandwidth for increased delivery of high-speed commercial services
Architected for system redundancy to support mission-critical applications -- such as IP telephony -- and allow operators to increase overall service reliability and uptime for thousands of flows at wire- speed to enable Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
SmartFlow® QoS classification and RFSentry functionality, including an extra receiver port to enable Advanced Spectrum Management. RFSentry enables operators to monitor upstream performance while maintaining channel throughput.

The largest release of features for the BSR product line, this software will enable cable operators to seamlessly deliver voice, video, and data applications to their customers.
Cable operators will benefit from support in software release 4.1 for tripled upstream bandwidth, advanced spectrum management, virtual private networking, and dynamic voice and data traffic balancing. The software release also adds support in the Motorola BSR 64000 for PacketCable(TM) Multimedia services within DOCSIS® 2.0, a qualification received from CableLabs® in the recently completed Certification Wave 34.

2:8 Advanced Spectrum Management with 9th Receiver - Enables operators to better manage their RF network, potentially reducing maintenance costs and improving service uptime.
Operator-Defined MAC Domains - Creates the ability to configure upstream and downstream channel combinations to help meet new service requirements.
Dynamic Upstream and Downstream Load Balancing - Allows operators to more efficiently utilize bandwidth and serve larger populations of voice and data customers.
DOCSIS® Set-Top Gateway Support- Simplifies control of video networks by allowing operators to control set-tops using an embedded cable modem.
PacketCable Multimedia Support - Enables operators to offer new services such as video telephony and gaming with the required quality of service (QoS) to enable high-quality service.
BGP/MPLS Virtual Private Network (VPN) Support - Gives operators a cost-effective solution for providing commercial customers with secure virtual private networks that connect multiple locations with the high bandwidth and QoS required.
