LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- Tut Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:TUTS), an industry pioneer in enabling the delivery of next-generation data and video services over broadband networks, today announced that its Astria(R) platform was selected to provide digital video encoding and decoding solutions as a key part of Beijing Telecom's video transport service for China CentralTelevision (CCTV).

Tut Systems worked closely with China-based distributor Beijing WeiFan Communication Equipment Co., Ltd to create an end-to-end video distribution network connecting 10 provinces to the central facilities of CCTV. The digital video transport network includes encoding/decoding platforms from Tut Systems, audio/video routers, and optical fiber transport networks.

At each of the 10 provinces, Tut Systems' Astria platform will digitally encode and deliver video over China Telecom's fiber optic network to centralized Astria decoders that will reside in the CCTV studios in Beijing. CCTV will use this content for its national news coverage that is distributed to both TV viewers and Internet users throughout China.

Mr. LiYanXiang, GM of WeiFan Communication Co., Ltd, stated, "Connecting the many provinces throughout China to a central studio over a fiber network will improve the speed and accuracy of CCTV's news reporting. By using an advanced content processing solution from Tut Systems at the edges of the network, Beijing Telecom is able to offer high quality video services to leading-edge customers such as CCTV. We have worked closely with Tut Systems and Beijing Telecom for this application, and are very satisfied with the level of service provided by Tut Systems in China."

"Expanding television and Internet usage in China creates the need for a robust video network capable of gathering and delivering news footage throughout China. Beijing Telecom, a subsidiary of China Telecom, is leveraging the inherent benefits of IP to establish a wide-scale digital video network that CCTV will use to benefit TV viewers and Internet users across the country," said Bob Noonan, VP of Worldwide Sales for Tut Systems. "We are excited about the progress and interest that we are seeing throughout Asia for our IP video processing solutions. Through strong alliances with Asia-based distributors, we are helping to deliver next generation IP video platforms and expanding our presence in the Asia-Pacific region."
