ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Avail Networks today announced support for Circuit Emulation Services (CES) over Ethernet in its Frontera(TM) family of multi-subscriber and multiservice enterprise gateways. This significant advancement allows metro Ethernet service providers to extend their access networks and expand service offerings to incorporate a wide range of circuit-based customer premises equipment -- including PBXs, channel banks, and videoconferencing equipment -- and extract new revenue streams from their metro fiber assets. Ethernet-focused metro service providers have to date largely been limited to providing only high-speed data services, putting pressure on margins and limiting their service bundling opportunities. Avail's CES over Ethernet capability breaks this barrier in a pragmatic and easy-to-deploy way with essentially no disruption to current ring, mesh, or point-to-point architectures, or customer premises equipment. The ability to deliver TDM-based services over standard Ethernet reduces overall cost and simplifies network design, while supporting the continuing evolution of Ethernet as the MAN and WAN access method of choice.
