STOCKHOLM -- Using AppGate Network Security Server customers can encrypt Skype traffic between users of Skype inside a company network.

“Over the last couple of months we have received many questions regarding the security of Skype traffic and whether it was possible to encrypt it using AppGate. We do not have an opinion about Skype´s ability to secure their traffic but with so many customers asking us to test, we had to do it”, says Göran Marby, CEO at AppGate Network Security. Goran continues: The AppGate solution is unique in many ways and brings together so many different elements of security such as VPN and Distributed Firewalls. This with the possibility to interact with other elements of the network and applications makes it possible to create unique solutions based on a state-of-art security platform. It shows the underlying strength of the solution in that an advanced protocol such as Skype could be made to work right out of the box with no special modifications. It is only a question of using the different parts of the AppGate solution in the right way. This approach is true to the Jericho Forums vision about how network security has to change in the future. AppGate was recently awarded a prize from the Jericho Forum for its solutions. ” A point worthy of notice is that the encryption is done in such a way that no noticeable delays are caused and therefore the quality of the conversation is not lowered.

The elements in the AppGate solution that makes this possible are the AppGate Server and the Distributed Personal Firewall together with the internal web proxy.
