IRVINE, Calif. -- Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), the leading provider of integrated circuits enabling broadband communications, today announced that Alcatel has included the Broadcom(R) BladeRunner(TM) chipset in the latest release of its ASAM 7300 platform. The BladeRunner solution provides industry-leading power, performance and port density, making the chipset an ideal choice for next generation central office access multiplexer equipment. "With worldwide demand for DSL continuing to remain strong, and profitability being a main driver for world wide deployments, the availability of low power, high density solutions like the Broadcom BladeRunner will enable our ASAM platform to persistently set the benchmark for highly efficient, cost-effective DSL deployments," said Willem Verbiest, Vice President of the Alcatel DSL Access Business Unit. The BladeRunner chipset supports full-rate Asymmetric DSL (ADSL) at up to 16 Megabits per second (Mbps) with an unmatched power dissipation of only 900 mW under typical worst-case conditions. The solution is also the first in the industry to integrate on-chip all of the memory, processor and interworking functions typically found on DSL line cards. Broadcom backs the BladeRunner chipset with standards-compliant firmware that supports the full range of DSL deployments, including ADSL annex A, B, C, and ADSL2. BladeRunner also includes extensions that allow greater bandwidth in both upstream and downstream transmissions and that extend service coverage distances. Alcatel SA Broadcom Corp.
