Deal strengthens strategic alliance in the access market

PETALUMA, CA -- Advanced Fibre Communications®, Inc. (AFC) (Nasdaq: AFCI), a leader in multi-service broadband solutions for the telecommunications industry, announced today it has signed an agreement with Tellabs (Nasdaq: TLAB) to continue supplying components for Tellabs' CABLESPAN® 2300 cable telephony system. Lisle, Ill.-based Tellabs designs, manufactures, markets and services optical networking, next-generation switching and broadband access solutions.

Under the terms of the new agreement, Tellabs has agreed to purchase certain components from AFC, for 2000, with the option to extend the agreement in 2001. AFC's technology is used in Tellabs' CABLESPAN® 2300 universal telephony distribution system's headend, supporting dynamic time slot allocation, element management and GR-303 switch interface
