MILAN, Italy -- FlyNET, the regional carrier based in Arezzo, Italy, has selected Zhone's SLMS DSL network for its multi-service broadband access deployment. FlyNET is the first operator in Southern Europe to offer integrated broadband telecommunication, Internet and entertainment services. The contract includes Central Office DSL equipment for co-location sites, Integrated Access Devices that serve as the customer premises equipment for FlyNET's subscribers and VoDSL equipment for the integration of voice and data over the same DSL line. The cornerstone of FlyNET's network is Zhone's innovative BAN access and service node. The BAN is the first broadband access platform on the market to integrate the functionality of a Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM), a Digital Loop Carrier (DLC), a Digital Access Cross Connect System (DACs), a Subscriber Management System (SMS), a Voice over DSL gateway, IP edge router and ATM switch into a fully integrated, centrally manageable solution. Zhone is also supplying FlyNET with all key building blocks of its SLMS (Single Line, MultiService) network solution, including the Sechtor 100 Universal Voice Gateway, the Z-Edge 64 Integrated Access Device and ZMS network and subscriber management software.Cesare Sironi, vice president of Zhone EMEA, said: "Offering broadband access can be substantially profitable for regional operators like FlyNET, but business focus and innovative, low-cost multi-service DSL technology is needed to take advantage of it. Zhone's sole mission, since its inception, has been to enable profitable multi-service business models like FlyNET's, by delivering our unique SLMS (Single Line, Multiple Services) network architecture."Zhone Technologies Inc.
