SAN FRANCISCO-- Yipes Communications, Inc., the leading managed optical IP network provider, today announced that Lucent Technologies NetworkCare is providing 24x7 Network Operations Center (NOC) services for Yipes' gigabit backbone. Lucent rounds out Yipes' suite of best-in-class network management services.

Yipes is building out the first end-to-end Ethernet-based regional networks across the United States for linking businesses to each other and to the Internet at speeds that are fully scalable from 1 Megabit-per-second up to 1 Gigabit-per-second in 1 Mbps increments. These networks will solve the bandwidth crunch between corporate LANs and cross-country fiber networks and drive a new generation of bandwidth-intensive applications.

Lucent Technologies NetworkCare is remotely monitoring and troubleshooting Yipes' core network devices on a 24x7 basis from its Network Knowledge Center based in Denver. NetworkCare provides reporting, network performance analysis, troubleshooting assistance and backup services to restore the system in case of disaster. It also pursues trouble resolution with third party carriers who handle long-haul data transport for Yipes customers. NetworkCare supplements Yipes' network management operations at its own 24x7 NOC in Denver and its backup NOC in San Francisco. This redundant management system ensures the highest levels of reliability for Yipes business customers.

"Lucent NetworkCare is pleased to offer Yipes industry-leading network operations services," said Jeff Akers, Vice President and COO, Lucent Technologies NetworkCare. "Our high levels of quality and reliability come from years of experience in designing and operating networks for customers. Lucent NetworkCare is well suited to Yipes' best-in-class approach because of our commitment to operating high performance multivendor networks."

"No one has as much experience as Lucent NetworkCare in running highly reliable communications networks," said Dr. Kamran Sistanizadeh, Vice President of Network Architecture at Yipes. "Its broad experience managing data and mobile networks as well as its expertise in Internet Protocol networks further support the customer-centric approach and business quality of service provided by Yipes."

"Yipes' relationship with Lucent helps customers feel comfortable that their business applications will be running over a robust network that is optimized for IP and maintained with the highest standards of service and reliability. Customers get the ideal combination of Yipes' market-defining services and the network scrutiny of Lucent. This agreement shows Yipes' commitment to large-scale, business-quality networks," said Peter Sevcik, President of NetForecast in Waltham, Mass.

Yipes network services are available today in suburban San Francisco, Los Angeles and Denver. Yipes plans to have a nationwide footprint by the end of this year, with services available in 18 cities coast to coast.
