LONDON -- Actix, the global provider of wireless performance engineering solutions, has today announced that XPress Jordan, the first iDEN mobile operator in the Arab world, has selected Actix’ iDEN network optimization solution to enable it to improve the quality of its network, while also reducing the time spent by engineers in identifying problems. The comprehensive reporting functionality of Actix’ solution, its ability to speed-identify trouble areas through embedded tools, and its vendor independent support for a wide range of data gathering tools, were all features XPress Jordan identified as key to enabling it to speed-up network improvements, while reducing costs.

Actix’ wireless performance engineering solutions are entirely vendor independent and enable operators to analyze raw wireless network data from a mix of network technologies, systems and data collection solutions in fine detail. This gives an end-to-end picture of vital wireless functions and the quality of service delivery from the subscriber’s perspective; it also enables engineers to ‘drill down’ to the root cause of any deficiencies. Some of the operators using Actix’ 3G solutions include: Saudi Telecom Corporation, Safaricom, SKT Korea, FET Taiwan, Orange France, 3GIS, Hutchison 3G UK, Swisscom, Mobilkom, US Cellular, Verizon Wireless, Bell Mobility, Sprint PCS, and Qwest Wireless.

The accurate decoding of layer 3 messaging - including collection-tool specific events by Actix’ software - enables XPress Jordan to use only one post processing solution to analyze the data from its range of different data gathering tools. This means less training is required for XPress Jordan’s engineers, as well as providing a better overview of the network and more potential to ‘drill down’ and identify problems. Using Actix’ log file replay functionality also helps XPress Jordan to analyze problems more rapidly.

The operator can select particular metrics such as signal strength and quality, and a particular cell and its neighbours, and then playback that part of the log file on maps, charts, tables, or in a message browser. Actix’ reporting and query functionality also reduces the time it takes to identify problems and present information about the network in a presentation-ready format. This is supported by Actix’ prepackaged queries that automate the analysis of log files. Both technical reports to locate problems and reports for XPress Jordan’s management can be generated at the click of a button.

Fouad Sahlieh, RF Engineering Manager, XPress Jordan said, “The Actix software provides a very powerful tool to analyze drive test data from networks based on iDEN technology. It provides a flexibility and ease of use that other analysis tools don’t, and it can capture detailed information about layer 3 messaging, including call events and special flags that in our experience other post processing tools cannot capture accurately. Our subscribers certainly benefit from the speed with which we can enhance our network, and Actix’ software also increases the cost efficiency of our engineering department.”
