ROME -- Italian operator Wind recently launched its mobile content downloading system, provided by Nokia, allowing Wind customers to download content and applications such as video, color games, polyphonic ringing tones, and countless other applications. For the first time in Italy, Wind customers can enjoy the power of unlimited mobile personalization by simply downloading Symbian and Java(TM) applications to their mobile handsets. The market launch follows an extensive trial of the Nokia Downloading Solution, which comprises the Nokia Delivery Server and mobile games and applications provided by Nokia Tradepoint, the online marketplace of Forum Nokia. Extensive integration into Wind's existing infrastructure has been thoroughly tested. "Following the multimedia messaging launch with Wind in September, we have now met another significant milestone towards full 3G services," says Antonio Papa, Director, Nokia Networks. "And we are very pleased to strengthen our partnership with Wind by bringing to life the new generation of mobile services." The downloading solution provided by Nokia is a comprehensive, versatile, open-standard, telecom class solution. It gives the operators the opportunity to create new revenue streams by allowing the downloading of a large variety content, such as Java games, Symbian applications and generic content, supported by the mobile devices. The solution allows any WAP-capable mobile device to be billed when downloading the selected supported content. The Nokia 7650, based on the Series 60 Platform, and other Java-capable phones, such as the Nokia 3510i, Nokia 6610 and Nokia 7210 will offer a richer, compelling experience supporting the download of polyphonic ringing tones and Java games.Nokia Corp.
