INDIANAPOLIS -- Willtek Communications today announced a series of initiatives to expand market presence in the Chinese wireless testing market. With its own stand at PT Expo, China’s leading event for the communication market, Willtek will launch the TD-SCDMA System Option, a product designed specifically for the Chinese wireless market. Willtek also opens an office in Shanghai to support business development in the region.

"Not only is China the single largest market for wireless products, it has also started to play a key role in manufacturing mobile devices. China is already supplying mobile phones to Europe and America and is well-equipped to become one of the top countries for mobile phone design, too," said Willtek CEO Cyrille Damany. "To ensure we have our finger on the pulse of the Chinese market and remain at the heart of its development, Willtek will also be based in Shanghai. With this dedicated focus we expect to repeat the success with our customers in Europe including Nokia, Siemens, Motorola and Sony Ericsson."

The new Willtek office, led by Mr. Steve Barraclough, General Manager for Willtek China, will continue to build contacts and cultivate closer cooperation with key players in the region. To re-emphasise the company’s commitment to Chinese customers and their requirements, Willtek also has launched its web presence in Chinese at www.willtek.cn. Corad Technology Ltd. is Willtek’s official sales representative in China and services Willtek instruments on behalf of Willtek Communications.

At PT Expo in Beijing, October 26-30, Willtek products will be shown at three booths. Willtek will present a service tester for GSM phone repair, a production tester with TD-SCDMA (Time Division Synchronous CDMA) and a hand-portable spectrum analyzer in hall 1 at booth 1020. Corad, Willtek’s sales representative in China, also will exhibit Willtek products.

From the choice of wireless, third-generation (3G) technologies for high-speed data transfer, the Chinese government favors TD-SCDMA. The first integrated radio communication tester for this brand-new technology comes from Willtek Communications. TD-SCDMA will become available as a system option for the 4400 Mobile Phone Tester Series. The 4450 TD-SCDMA System Option for non-call mode will include a signal generator for multiple physical TD-SCDMA channels and an analyzer for various power and spectrum measurements. Other 3G technologies available on the 4400 include CDMA2000, EDGE and Wideband CDMA, making the 4400 a true multi-format tester for RF and audio measurements on today’s and tomorrow’s mobile phones.

Willtek has worked closely with T3G and Datang for the design and verification of the TD-SCDMA System Option. These partners helped Willtek better understand the specific requirements of Chinese R&D labs and manufacturing lines to ensure that the TD-SCDMA System Option best meets the demands of Chinese design and production engineers. The new system option will become available in January 2005.

The new system option will cover the requirements of design engineers and manufacturers of TD-SCDMA mobile phones. Measurements for production tests include minimum/maximum power and power-off measurements. Radio frequency spectrum tests are particularly important in any CDMA communication system in order to optimize the number of users in a cell, and to avoid adjacent channel interference; so the spectrum-based measurements of occupied bandwidth, adjacent channel leakage ratio and spectrum emission mask can be found in the 4400 as well.
