Wightman Telecom has selected Spediant’s equipment to provide fiber-speed last-mile connectivity for its data services

RED BANK, N.J. -- Spediant Systems, a leading developer of Multi-Loop DSL (Bonding) products, enabling delivery of higher capacity broadband services over copper, announced today that Wightman Telecom, an independent telephone company in Canada, has selected Spediant’s equipment to provide fiber-speed last-mile connectivity for its data services.
Wightman is using Spediant products to connect its wireless nodes to collocated central offices of other telephone companies in the Ontario towns where it provides competitive services.
“We needed a bonded DSL solution to get from wireless to the collocated equipment in the ILEC central offices,” said Tom Sullivan, general manager of Wightman Telecom. “We chose Spediant’s EML 8000 solution after trying other DSL bonding products. We found that Spediant’s EML systems were the most reliable, had greater reach and bandwidth, and were more user-friendly than other systems. Most importantly, they were manageable.”
Wightman has connected Spediant’s equipment to its existing management and support system in order to remotely monitor and troubleshoot the service. This allows for identification and resolution of potential problems before they occur.
The EML 8000 aggregates the bandwidth of up to eight copper loops at extended distances from a central office, giving Wightman the ability to take a large pipe into the central office, Sullivan said. He added, “We are able to accomplish this without having to lease a facility from a carrier or extend our fiber network. This cost-effective solution has resulted in a significant cost savings for Wightman.”
Brian Searl, vice president of North American sales for Spediant, noted that Wightman’s success with the EML 8000 products demonstrates the need for Multi-Loop DSL, which “allows carriers to deliver the bandwidth to their small to medium-sized enterprise customers and offices of larger companies, without installing fiber.”
