BOSTON -- Hughes Software Systems (HSS), a leading provider of global software outsourcing services, today announced a co-development relationship with San Diego, CA based communication company Wave Three Software, Inc. Wave Three has selected HSS' SIP Server Framework to power its platform for multipoint SIP video conferencing, the SessionTM Conference Server.

The HSS SIP Server Framework is fully compliant with the Internet Engineering Task Force's RFC 3261 and a host of other drafts dictating the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) standard. HSS launched the product in 2002 and it subsequently won Internet Telephony's product of the year award. The SIP Server Framework comes with built-in standard SIP functionalities such as Call State Control Function (CSCF), Proxy, Registrar, Redirect, Presence, B2B UA, and Location Services. Its architectural flexibility ensures that it can be configured to suit diverse customer requirements, while maintaining carrier grade reliability and scalability. The server offers a rich set of reusable components, which can be combined in a plug-and-play fashion to implement new services. It is an ideal fit for core routers, 3G-based and CSCF function-based Call Servers as well as other SIP-based network elements.

"With rapidly evolving IETF standards, we sought a flexible and scalable solution that would allow us to introduce innovative audio and video services without any concerns about protocol and conference call control changes," said Jim Schwartz, Senior Vice President of Product Development, Wave Three Software. " HSS' SIP Server Framework allows us to offer a robust, standards-compliant solution capable of supporting the rapid development of new features to meet our customer demands."

Manoranjan Mohapatra, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, HSS commented: "Our SIP infrastructure is continuously aligned with industry standards to deliver future-proof solutions. Our customized services ensure product evolution in line with standard protocols. We believe in setting market trends, and with the Wave Three deployment, we have hit another landmark in our quest to stay at the forefront of communication technology."

Wave Three's Session Conference Server Software is the industry's first fully SIP-based solution offering multipoint Voice over IP, Video over IP and data sharing capabilities. The Conference Server includes three modules: Conference Management, which handles call reservation and general network administration; Call Control, for setting up and tearing down calls; and Multimedia, which pushes shared images and files to users. The suite can run on a single Windows 2000 server or be spread over multiple locations, depending on network configuration and the number of users being supported.

Wave Three currently sells the Session Conference Server to research, higher education and medical customers as a low cost, high quality alternative to existing hardware-based multipoint video conferencing solutions. "Session is an appealing SIP-based application for video and audio," states Christine Perey, President, Perey Research and Consulting. "It is priced to be attractive to companies piloting new rich media communications technologies."
