TULSA, Okla., and NEW YORK -- Williams Communications (NYSE: WCG) has signed an agreement to provide long-distance services to Verizon Global Networks Inc. (GNI), a subsidiary of Verizon Communications. Financial terms were not disclosed.Verizon GNI provides the underlying network infrastructure that Verizon uses to provide domestic long-distance service to customers in 40 states. The network combines Verizon's own switches and cables with the facilities of other providers, like Williams Communications, to ensure that Verizon's millions of long-distance customers can communicate instantly with family and friends across the country.“In today’s capital-constrained market, network outsourcing is a smart management strategy for companies seeking to gain a competitive edge by lowering costs and risks while staying focused on their core competencies,” said Frank Semple, chief operating officer for Williams Communications. “We are pleased to add a high-caliber customer like Verizon to complement our strong stable of existing customers.”Williams Communications Group Verizon Communications Inc.
