WASHINGTON -- Core Capital Partners, a $320 million venture capital firm that invests in a broad range of technology companies, announced today that it invested in a Series C round in Trinity Convergence, Inc., a leading provider of embedded communications software for developers of VoIP and Video and Voice over Internet Protocol (V2IP) end-points. Core Capital co-led the $5.6 million round along with Intersouth Partners and Mid-Atlantic Venture Funds, which is the same syndicate of investors that provided Trinity's previous two rounds of funding. This latest round will drive Trinity's sales and marketing efforts and also aid the development of its VeriCall EdgeTM product, which was just named a "2004 Product of the Year Winner" by Internet Telephony magazine.
Trinity's VeriCall Edge software translates analog signals into digitalized packets and vice-versa without a Digital Signal Processor (DSP), which has been a traditional prerequisite for VoIP solutions. The software works with both voice and video using industry standard protocols including Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and H.323. Trinity's software can, for example, facilitate the transmission of video signals to an IP-enabled mobile phone.
Manufacturers of telecommunications equipment embed Trinity's software into a range of VoIP and V2IP equipment including central office applications and consumer devices. The "DSP-free" approach allows developers to reduce the cost, power consumption and the footprint of their design. The company's customers include original equipment manufacturers (OEM), original device manufacturers (ODM) and semiconductor vendors that integrate Trinity's software into systems and chips.
"The traction that VeriCall Edge has garnered from Tier 1 OEMs, ODMs, and silicon partners validates the benefits that exist for this DSP-free solution," said Will Dunbar, Managing Director, Core Capital Partners. "Trinity has pioneered a DSP-free implementation that gives OEMs and ODMs the ability to offer highly competitive solutions, that when combined with VeriCall Edge's comprehensive set of building blocks reduce both development time and cost for delivery of robust VoIP and V2IP end-points."
