ATLANTA -- TiMetra Networks, the leading developer of Service Routers for next-generation carrier networks, today announced its SR-Series Service Routers, the first family of scalable, carrier-class routing platforms to incorporate the service orientation and management capabilities necessary for delivery of new, private data services as well as Internet access. SR-Series Service Routers enable service providers worldwide to maximize revenue and profit from their IP and IP/MPLS networks. Already deployed in several production networks, the SR-Series provides the service capabilities required by carriers, while also delivering a generational leap in performance, density and flexibility over existing Internet routers.

Unlike current generation routers, the SR-Series has been designed from the ground-up for the delivery of multiple services over an IP/MPLS packet network -- in other words, Service Routing. The system is built on TiMetra's FLEXPATH technology, a fully programmable 10Gbps fastpath that enables future upgrades to be achieved in microcode, eliminating the substantial costs of line-card replacements and truck rolls that are typically required with today's routers. The FLEXPATH technology enables providers to quickly and cost-effectively deploy new, revenue-generating service offerings including Ethernet, Frame Relay and ATM Virtual Leased Lines (VLL), BGP/MPLS VPNs (RFC2457bis) and Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS).

"TiMetra's SR-Series is enabling us to deliver the industry's first production Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) in an extremely compact and cost-effective footprint," said Kenneth Frank, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Systems at MASERGY, a global provider of IP/MPLS-based services. "The SR-Series allows us to efficiently extend the private data services being demanded by our customers, while providing the scalability and flexibility necessary to meet their future needs," he added.
