CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Portal Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRSF), a leading provider of convergent billing applications, today announced that Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM), Europe's second largest mobile communications operator, has selected Portal's convergent billing product, Infranet. TIM will use Portal Infranet as the billing solution for its wireless voice, data, and content operations. TIM plans to replace legacy systems in a phased migration carefully designed to deliver incremental returns throughout the project lifecycle. Portal Infranet will easily adapt to the way TIM is doing business today, and will also give the company a way to transition to a new operating model based entirely on converged services. TIM chose Portal because of the breadth of functionality and flexibility in Portal's convergent billing platform. TIM was looking for a billing solution to allow quick and effective introduction of new value-added services. With Portal, TIM will be able to accelerate the time to market for launching new convergent offers and price plans and improve on business efficiency. Additionally, the Portal billing system for postpaid customers will support 2.5 and 3G services that TIM's legacy systems cannot accommodate in terms of time and costs. "Our customers want to take advantage of new voice and data related services, whether it is messaging a colleague, accessing a football score or conducting the final steps in a contract negotiation," said Marco Iacomussi, head of IT development business systems, Telecom Italia Mobile. Through their agreement with Portal, Telecom Italia Mobile is also taking advantage of the new TelcoOne(tm) offering from Portal and Siebel Systems. TelcoOne is an end-to-end customer relationship management (CRM) and billing platform that gives service providers an integrated environment to serve all customer care and billing needs. The new TelcoOne offering is providing TIM with a complete environment to serve all aspects of a customer's interaction. Telecom Italia Mobile SpA Portal Software Inc.
