BARCELONA -- As wireless operators transition from 2G to 3G networks, they need to reliably manage multiple types of network traffic while significantly reducing costs. Tellabs today introduces the Tellabs® 8605 access switch, which flexibly handles circuit-switched and packet-based traffic in a highly compact device that fits in one standard rack unit (size 44 mm). The access switch enables operators to cost-effectively roll out new, bandwidth-intensive applications to meet the evolving needs of subscribers while sustaining optimal network performance.
“With the Tellabs 8605, operators can quickly introduce new IP-based 3G services as they continue to leverage investments in their current transport solutions,” said Mika Heikkinen, vice president of product development for Tellabs in Finland.
The Tellabs 8605 switch can now be seen at Tellabs’ 3GSM booth 2.1A85 and 2.1A90. General availability is scheduled for May 2007. The switch is part of the Tellabs® IntegratedMobileSM solution, which enables efficient wireless backhaul for service providers worldwide. More than one-third of the world’s wireless calls are made on mobile networks owned by Tellabs customers.
