MECHELEN, Belgium, and PARIS -- Telenet (Euronext Brussels: TNET) and Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced a major step in the operator’s mobile MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) project.

Telenet, a leading provider of media and telecommunications services in Flanders, selected Alcatel-Lucent as overall network integrator and today is announcing a 7-year frame agreement with Alcatel-Lucent. Alcatel-Lucent will be the overall integrator of the full mobile core, and of the value added service network components. As part of the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will be responsible for the supply, installation, integration, operation and maintenance of Telenet’s next generation mobile core network and service creation infrastructure.

“This investment shows our commitment towards the implementation of Telenet Mobile. This project enables us to expand both our current product offering and to create new mobile and converged services for our customers. The co-operation with Alcatel-Lucent demonstrates the commitment of both parties to Flanders’ innovation driven economy,” says Telenet Executive Vice President Technology & Solutions Jan Vorstermans. “Alcatel-Lucent global experience in managing complex, multi-party network integration projects across the world will support our ambition for this project.”
