COLUMBIA, Md. -- TECORE® Wireless Systems, a pioneer supplier of new generation wireless systems, announced today that it has deployed a GSM wireless network for Somafone, a new nationwide operator in Somalia. The Somafone network will initially provide coverage to the capital city of Mogadishu and extend into the surrounding regions. This turn-key project includes the deployment of TECORE’s GSM-based AirCore® MSC/VLR (Mobile Switching Center/Visitor Location Register), Prepaid System, SMSC (Short Messaging Service Center), AirNet® GSM AdaptaCell® Broadband Software-Defined Base Stations and AirSite® Backhaul Free™ Base Stations.

As the political situation in Somalia continues to stabilize with the establishment of a new government, TECORE has strengthened its commitment to operators deploying wireless networks throughout the country. New networks will create job opportunities, expand commerce, and improve communications both nationally and internationally.

“We are very happy with TECORE’s ability to rapidly deliver network infrastructure that enabled us to build the system we needed to fulfill our obligations. Without their dedication to the project, deployment of this network would not have been possible. They have been a tremendous asset as a vendor partner in developing our business model and building the system,” said Mr. Abdullahi Abdi Hussein, CEO of Somafone.

“TECORE continues to be a leader in bringing wireless communications to emerging wireless operators worldwide,” said Jay Salkini, chairman and CEO of TECORE. “Our ability to work with new operators and provide them the assistance necessary, whether technical, operational or business, makes us the right partner for them,” said Salkini.
