Hires ex-Cisco exec Bill Nuti as prez & COO; Richard Bravman promoted to Vice Chair & CEO; founder Jerome Swartz becomes Executive Chair & Chief Scientist

HOLTSVILLE, N.Y.--July 16, 2002--Symbol Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: SBL) today announced that it has strengthened its senior management team with the addition of 10-year Cisco executive William Nuti as President and Chief Operating Officer, and the promotion of Richard Bravman, who previously held these positions, to Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.Bravman, who also joins Symbol's Board of Directors, succeeds Jerome Swartz, who has been serving as CEO since February on an interim basis. Dr. Swartz, who founded Symbol in 1975, will continue as Executive Chairman of the Board and Chief Scientist.Swartz said, "We now have in place a new generation of leadership to work with me as Symbol takes full advantage of its world-class technology assets and builds shareholder value. Rich Bravman has proved himself during more than 20 years in a range of increasingly important roles, and his recent performance has confirmed the Board's belief in his leadership abilities.
