SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Sunrise Telecom Incorporated (Nasdaq: SRTI - News), a leading provider of service verification equipment for telecommunications and cable TV networks, today announced an addition to the STT (Scalable Test Toolkit) platform -- the Fiber Analysis Module (FAM). The FAM allows service providers to deploy and optimize metro fiber networks quickly and inexpensively by providing a comprehensive and cost-effective tool to install and troubleshoot optical fibers. The STT platform offers a growing variety of test instruments for next-generation network maintenance and the FAM is a key building block of this growing tool set.

The Fiber Analysis Module combines all the necessary tools for installing and maintaining optical fibers into a single module: a dual wavelength OTDR, Visual Fault Locator, bidirectional Loss Test Set, Optical Return Loss [test function], and Variable Optical Attenuator. With the OTDR, users can obtain the fiber characteristics at the touch of a button. The module's optical return loss measurement, which characterizes the back reflection on fiber, represents an essential step in trouble-free deployment of high-speed transmission networks like DWDM. Fiber qualification is made quick and easy with the automated bidirectional loss test that measures fiber loss in both directions and automatically sends the results to both ends. A companion software package streamlines the test procedure from start to finish by managing test results, generating reports, and flagging failed links.

STT-FAM complements the recent introduction of Sunrise Telecom's handheld MTT Optical Test Toolkit, showing the company's commitment to fiber optics testing. The FAM offers full compatibility with the SunSet(TM) MTT handheld family. The FAM also takes advantage of the STT's unique independent module architecture. The module can be independently operated via an IP connection and still offer 100% of its capabilities. Sunrise Telecom Inc.
