HONOLULU -- Spirent Communications, a wholly owned business group of Spirent plc (NYSE: SPM), today announced the availability of a test solution that verifies and qualifies provider edge (PE) routers being implemented for BGP/MPLS virtual private networks (VPNs). Through functional and performance testing, the Spirent RFC 2547bis Test Solution, running on its Adtech AX/4000 Broadband Test System, will help service providers and network equipment manufacturers (NEMs) more efficiently deploy equipment into BGP/MPLS VPNs. Lower provisioning and maintenance costs, flexibility and scalability are inherent benefits of BGP/MPLS VPNs, which have a direct correlation to higher profitability and increased revenue for the implementing service provider. Testing is imperative to the success of these VPNs. Testing can accelerate VPN deployment and help service providers' realize the inherent benefits more quickly. "The BGP/MPLS test solution extends Spirent's BGP support to serve our customers currently evaluating or planning the deployment of devices in MPLS-based VPNs," said Ken Hensarling, senior director of product marketing for Spirent Communications' Adtech products. "By choosing the right test equipment to guarantee performance and scalability of new Layer 3 VPN devices, equipment manufacturers will be able to more quickly move away from costly, home-grown test sets and sell their products into service providers, who will also be able to more quickly roll out revenue-generating BGP/MPLS VPN services."Spirent Communications
