BERLIN -- SmartTrust, a developer of MDM and SIM management software designed to provide mobile network operators improved awareness of their subscribers and efficient management of the devices on their network, today introduced SmartTrust WIB(TM) 2.0 providing a solution that strengthens the ability for mobile Internet and WIB application developers to build more sophisticated revenue-generating value added services that meet today's needs for Dynamic SIM Toolkit (DSTK) applications. WIB 2.0 combines the benefits of mature technologies such as a Java, SMS, cell broadcast, Bearer Independent Protocol (BIP) and Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) to support a platform for emerging and next-generation DSTK services.

With an enhanced analysis of subscriber behavior, WIB 2.0, currently in the final phase of standardization, creates an environment that helps operators in growing markets offer the latest services as well as enables players in established areas to bring innovative offerings to their subscribers.

"The SmartTrust WIB 2.0 release is a starting point for SmartTrust in building an ecosystem of content providers, application developers, end-customers, mobile operators and infrastructure providers based around the SmartTrust Wireless Internet Gateway and WIB client technology," explained Robert Vangstad, Vice President, Business Unit VAS, SmartTrust. "We put ourselves in the position of channeling the power from Internet based content and applications into the mobile operators controlled environment."

The use of more wireless bearers in WIB 2.0, including USSD and BIP for instance, reduce service response times and allow for higher-speed and more frequent service updates ultimately leading to an improved customer experience. This will also eliminate some basic limitations when designing DSTK Value Added Service applications allowing services with more content thus generating more revenue. Incorporating cellular broadcast technology into WIB 2.0 with DSTK arms operators with the information needed to bring efficient and attractive mobile marketing campaigns to life as operators look to differentiate themselves from competitors as well as increase average revenue per user.

Additionally, in parallel to the WIB 2.0 release, SmartTrust is launching a Universal Gateway. This single gateway capable of supporting any DSTK enabled SIM card based on the mature, WIB specification or the S@T specification gives mobile operators full flexibility and freedom to run a dual technology environment optimizing their investment in SIM cards and associated technology for every individual subscriber or end-user. Operators can now easily switch to the WIB based SIM cards without losing the investment in the S@T based SIM cards and obtain maximum flexibility in the most cost effective manner for the future SIM cards procurement.

"The introduction of WIB 2.0 is the result of valuable feedback and represents an important step toward introducing SIM-controlled Internet related services to mobile operators and their customers," said Jeff Bork, CEO SmartTrust. "This release represents the foundation needed to build an impressive, comprehensive wireless ecosystem of content providers, application developers, mobile operators and infrastructure providers and ultimately open the door to an impressive set of services."
