CHELMSFORD, Mass. -- Cratos Networks, a company founded by fiber optic visionary Sanjeev Newarikar to develop a next-generation multi-service optical switch for metro communications network, today announced it has received initial funding totaling $8 million from the Comstellar Technologies Inc. Newarikar, President and Chief Technical Officer of Cratos, founded the company single handedly. He is best known for conceiving the product idea at Fiberlane that evolved into Siara Systems. Siara subsequently was bought by Redback for $4.3 billion.
"Sanjeev has an intuitive vision of the Internet as it could be, rather than as it is today, that will result in innovative products," said Dr. Paul Mokapetris, a member of Cratos Technical Advisory Board. "He has the depth of experience, together with a vision of what can be that will produce great products." Mokapetris is founder, CTO and VP of Engineering at Urban Media of Palo Alto, Calif. He is joined on the Cratos advisory board by Dr. Juha Heinanen, director of Telia Labs of Finland.
