PARIS -- Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced that Shaanxi Telecom, a subsidiary of China Telecom, has selected Alcatel's 5530 Network Analyzer for deployment in the province capital of Xi'an. This product is an advanced network diagnostic software tool to ensure smooth and stable delivery of value-added broadband services. The deployment of such a solution was the first of its kind in China. The contract was won through Alcatel Shanghai Bell, Alcatel's flagship Chinese company.

At present, there are 200,000 DSL subscribers in Xi'an and the number keeps growing. The Alcatel 5530 Network Analyzer automates the process of DSL line quality assessment and the continuous monitoring of service quality, enabling Shaanxi Telecom to expand its reach and better meet the increasing end user demand for quality services. With this tool, Shaanxi Telecom will be able to enhance customer loyalty and satisfaction by offering high-quality and reliable triple play (voice, data and video) services.

"With our wealth of experience in working with operators worldwide, Alcatel has a deep understanding of how to support our customers in meeting end user demand. The Alcatel 5530 Network Analyzer is part of our operational excellence solution which is targeted at profitably scaling broadband access operations and improving service quality. It plays a key role in delivering the promise of User-Centric Broadband and helping service providers bring a unified and personalized experience that revolves around the end users' needs and identity," said Michel Rahier, chief operating officer of Alcatel's fixed communications activities.
