EXTON, Pa. -- The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) today announced that it is accepting orders for a new printed manual that is designed to drive new levels of learning and certification preparation for field professionals who install and troubleshoot broadband services at the customer premises.

The SCTE Broadband Premises Installation and Service Guidebook, the initial component in a comprehensive SCTE training program, has been created to provide the fundamental knowledge that installers and technicians require to master the SCTE Broadband Premises Installer (BPI) and Broadband Premises Technician (BPT) certification examinations. The intent is to update the materials frequently keeping them timely and relevant. Available initially for self-study programs, the manual is expected to be the cornerstone of an SCTE e-learning course that will be announced in the near future.

“As cable’s role in the communications landscape has grown, so has the need to ensure zero-defect installations for customers,” said Daniel Howard, senior vice president, engineering and CTO of SCTE. “Working closely with representatives of the cable system operator community, SCTE’s Broadband Premises Installation and Service Guidebook and subsequent e-learning course will increase the technical knowledge and best-practices skills that today’s broadband professionals require.”
