Sandvine Wins Wireless Deal
Major wireless carrier selects Sandvine's 10-Gigabit Ethernet platform to give subscribers more control over their mobile Internet experience
January 16, 2008
WATERLOO, Ontario -- Sandvine, (Toronto:SVC.TO - News)(AIM: SAND) a leading provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for DSL, FTTH, cable, 3G wireless and WiMAX carriers, today announced that it has added a Tier 1 North American wireless carrier to its customer base. Sandvine's solutions will improve visibility into wireless network traffic and help the service provider offer subscribers more control over their mobile Internet experience. Sandvine defines "Tier 1" as any service provider with more than a million subscribers.
When connecting to websites or downloading files from the Internet over a mobile device, users have little idea how much those connections might cost. By deploying Sandvine's solution, the new customer will be able to simplify data packages by displaying to subscribers the price of their wireless Internet surfing in advance and let them choose whether to proceed or not, or even select a related data package that would be more appropriate.
"As more subscribers connect to the Internet on their mobile devices, they will be able to choose their services, understand the associated costs and pay for what they use," said Tom Donnelly, Sandvine's Executive Vice President, Marketing and Sales. "The Sandvine solution will also give our new customer unprecedented visibility into how their network is being used and by whom."
To enable the new service, the customer has purchased Sandvine's PTS 14000 intelligent broadband network platform plus associated software solutions. With hundreds of units deployed in over 20 service providers' networks, the PTS 14000 is the most proven intelligent broadband network solution to intersect 10-Gigabit Ethernet links - the new standard in Ethernet interconnects.
"The wireless market faces unique challenges and opportunities. Our dedicated wireless team and flexible product architecture have allowed us to be first to market with the right solutions to meet those needs," said Dave Caputo, Sandvine's President and Chief Executive Officer. "We expect wireless to be a strong growth market for Sandvine and are very pleased to demonstrate our expertise through the win of an innovative Tier 1 wireless player."
