SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Network video processing leader RGB Networks today announced the introduction of its new high density Universal Scalable Modulator (USM) for edge QAM modulation and upconversion. The USM, the most advanced QAM modulator for the cable industry, allows video service providers to make a smooth migration to next-generation digital video architectures, such as video-on-demand (VOD), switched digital video, and modular cable modem termination systems (M-CMTS), enabling the delivery of personalized, addressable, on-demand video services.
The one rack unit USM can support up to 128 x 6 MHz (96 x 8 MHz) QAM channels and can multiplex up to 1280 digital programs, making it the cable industry’s highest density edge QAM modulator. The fourth product based on RGB’s Video Intelligence Architecture™ (VIA), the USM allows operators to offer advanced, revenue-generating services while significantly lowering capital and operational investments.
