Quantum Bridge extends technology lead with new packets over PON patent
January 27, 2003
ANDOVER, Mass. -- Quantum Bridge Communications, Inc., a leading developer of Fiber to the Home and Fiber to the Business solutions, today announced that it has been issued a US patent for the transmission of packets over Passive Optical Networks (PONs). US patent #6,498,667, "Method and System for Packet Transmission Over Passive Optical Network", is key to generalized packet transport over PONs and allows Quantum Bridge to maintain its leadership position in high performance PON-based FTTH and FTTB systems, independent of network protocol. "Reliability and flexibility are vital ingredients of successful access systems," said Jeffrey Masucci, Quantum Bridge's Senior Vice President of Engineering. "This patent, coupled with our previous patents on burst mode reception, gives Quantum Bridge the capability to reliably transport voice, video and data services over a PON using any network protocol." This breakthrough arms service providers with the flexibility to deploy PON networks in any access environment while meeting the rigorous requirements that are critical for delivering triple play service offerings.
